Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 16, 2026

1. Overview

Planning Poker (“the Service”) is a free, browser-based agile estimation tool. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the Service:

  • Display name — the name you enter when joining or creating a room. This is stored locally in your browser and shared within your session only.
  • Anonymous user ID— a randomly generated 12-character identifier stored in your browser's localStorage. It is not linked to any personal information.
  • Votes and session data — your votes and the room state are stored in our database during an active session and may be retained for a short period afterward for operational purposes.
  • Usage data — standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) collected automatically for security and performance monitoring. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days.

We do not require account creation, email addresses, or any other personally identifiable information to use the Service.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the real-time planning poker sessions
  • To diagnose technical issues and ensure service reliability
  • To protect against abuse and unauthorized use

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage

Session data is stored using Supabase, a third-party database provider. Data may be stored on servers located in the European Union or the United States depending on the deployment region. Supabase's privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

The Service uses browser localStorage to store your anonymous user ID and display name. No third-party tracking cookies are used. If you clear your browser's local storage, your session data will be reset.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data

Because sessions are anonymous by design, most data cannot be attributed to a specific individual. To exercise your rights or ask questions, contact us at the address below.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
